The Level 3 course is a challenging and broad-reaching course that covers all of the world's major wine regions in-depth. The unique characteristics of each region are examined in detail, from the historical origins, to the regulations and current day controversies. 6-8 carefully-chosen wines will be tasted in each class which will illustrate the major points made in the lecture. The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, short answer essays and a blind tasting.
Prerequisite: WSET Level 2, CMS Level 2 or Instructor Permission
The Level 1 course is a broad overview of the world of wine. It is ideal for those working in wine or hospitality as well as devoted wine lovers. The course covers the main types and styles of wine available and how to serve and store wine. Students will hone their tasting abilities with an expert-guided tasting of 8 wines. The highlight of the class is an extensive discussion of the principals of food and wine pairing followed by a hands-on demonstration. There is a 30-question multiple-choice exam at the end of the day, after which the class will enjoy a Champagne toast. Those who pass the exam will earn the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.
The Level 2 course is the most popular course offered by the WSET. It is appropriate for a serious wine lover or someone in the wine or hospitality trade who wants to acquire a detailed knowledge of the characteristics of the principal grape varieties, spirits categories, wine and spirit styles, their methods of production, be able to successfully interpret the labels of the major wines and spirits and understand the principals of wine tasting and evaluation. Students will be able to provide guidance on the storage and service of wines and spirits and make informed recommendations to customers and friends. The course ends with a 50-question multiple-choice examination which leads to the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits, a highly-respected professional qualification.
